Our products can be used in a wide range of applications, some of these applications are outlined below.
Elwa Hot Water Services designed for Education Facilities
Elwa has developed the new range of Electric Instantaneous Water Heaters with built-in temperature limiters that are even more energy efficient than the existing range of Hotruns that are specially designed electronic controllers manufactured in Australia upon request of the Education Departments.
Sustainable Schools Initiatives (AuSSI) is a great initiative set up by the Government of Australia. To support this, Elwa has developed an electric instantaneous water heater that delivers a substantial sustainable contribution by providing hot water in schools at the lowest possible energy costs.
The Hotrun-T range originally developed for Schools and other education buildings can be used in any personal hygiene application in any situation.
Some key benefits of the Hotrun water heaters:
• Energy and water efficient
• Easy and cost effective new installation or as a replacement for old inefficient storage heaters
• Suitable for all applications in education facilities
• Can save over 60% on energy consumption
• Reduces CO2 emissions
• Compact in size (about the size of a small shoe box)
Key points of the Hotrun-T range are:
• Temperature controlled/limited to 45°C according to AS 3498 and AS 3500 for personal hygiene applications
• Easy installation, no need for mechanical thermostatic mixing valves that need to be maintained annually
The Hotrun does not have a storage tank and has no need for temperature limiting valves, drip trays nor maintenance. There is no added risk of growing legionella bacteria as the Hotrun doesn’t hold water to a critical temperature.
Elwa Pty Ltd is working in a team with qualified auditors, and professional electricians and plumbers to help participating schools take action and make a proposal ready to save energy and water, promote biodiversity, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and help schools reduce running costs while giving students the opportunity to learn about sustainability in a tangible and realistic environment.
Elwa is able to offer an assessment for water heaters and lighting and free quotation on an energy and efficiency upgrade.
Once the assessment has been done and you receive the proposal all you need to do is to submit the grant application to the Education Department and help your school benefit from the energy savings in the future.

Are you still using an old inefficient storage heater to supply hot water to your shampoo basins?
What happens if it breaks down and how long do you have to wait before it gets fixed or replaced? You may even have close down while it’s repaired.
Yearly, hundreds of liters of water are wasted while running the tap waiting for it to warm up. That is not only a waste of water but think about your energy costs as well. Looking at your energy bill at the end of the month don’t you wish you could save on that? With energy bills rising through the roof (12% every year), this will seriously impact your operating costs.
We make an instantaneous water heater named Hotrun. The Hotrun is the size of a shoebox. It’s easily installed under every basin.
Because the heating element is close to the tap, you will have your required hot water within seconds. That results in hardly any water losses that occur with long pipe runs.
Energy will only be consumed when you open your warm water tap so no waste, unlike your existing hot water storage tanks boiling water 24/7.
This means will you never run out of hot water again!
Just perfect for those busy days!
• Unlimited hot water
• Totally independent, every heater runs individually
• No temperature fluctuations
• No maintenance
• No power or water wasted
• No risk of scalding customers

Hygiene is one of the most important things in hospitals, health and child care centres. Therefore hot water needs to be available in unlimited amounts at all times. The Elwa Hotrun water heaters provide continuous flow of hot water without the risk of Legionella building up inside the water heater. Elwa also manufactures hand wash basins, hands free accessible, at set temperatures to prevent scalding, energy efficient and using minimal amounts of water.
Working in building services for 30 years, we can offer to work with you to assess the energy and water efficiency of your existing hot water systems and look at upgrades for your lighting.
Our new water heater controllers, developed in SA with a Clean-tech innovation have built-in temperature limiters that can be set to any temperature and have a (patented) thermal disinfection cycle to clean Legionella from fixtures downstream of the water heater.
We can offer you to do the annual compliance/maintenance on your hot water systems as well with our service technicians.
Elwa Hotrun electric instantaneous water heaters are an energy efficient solution for many applications.
This is because water is only heated up on demand to the right temperature and at the right flow rate.
In any storage type water heater so called standing losses occur, due to the risk of Legionella bacteria in storage tanks the water in the tank needs to be stored above 60°C continuously to eliminate the risk of legionella spreading from the tanks to the fixtures in buildings.
To explain Legionnaires disease we copy Dept of Health in Victoria: an extract from the dept.
Legionnaires’ disease (Legionellosis) is a serious and sometimes fatal form of pneumonia caused by the bacteria Legionella. Although not all cases of Legionnaires’ disease are severe, up to ten per cent of cases can be fatal.
Because water at a temperature over 60°C creates the risk for people scalding themselves, it became mandatory in 2009 to install temperature limiting valves or thermostatic mixing valves, to avoid the risk of scalding to people who open the hot water tap for all fixtures that supply water for personal hygiene, such as hand wash basins, vanities and showers.
Running these storage type water heaters at such high temperatures continuously demands a lot of energy all day long. Because hot water expands there is also a need for an over pressure relief valve on any storage type water heater, that releases hot water every time the water heaters heats up the water.
Storage type water heaters can be traditional electric or gas, heat-pump or solar.
In traditional storage water heaters these losses equate to 1.25 up to 3.41 kWh/day on new well insulated models. You always make energy savings on the standing losses when you go instantaneous.
Another way to save water and considerable amounts of energy is to reduce the flow rate of all fixtures connected to a water heater to the amount that is really required (Wels rating) so there is no spillage of excess (hot) water.
For example a hand wash basin can do with as little as 3 ltr/min and a kitchen sink with 5 ltr/min, new showerheads are reduced nowadays to 7 or 9 ltr/min. Every litre more of hot water generated (being the running costs) increases usage costs when you allow higher flow rates, so to have the right flow rates is very important. The closer you can install a water heater to the tap the more economical it is and it creates comfort not waiting for the hot water to finally arrive at the point of use. This also equates to considerable energy savings
Considering all of the above disadvantages of storage type water heaters Elwa has developed a range of highly energy efficient water heaters in Adelaide for the Australian market and export.
The ELWA HOTRUN VE and T range of water heaters measures the flow rate, inlet water temperature and looks at the desired outlet water temperature and calculates the energy required to warm up the water to set-point, and then pulses the right minimum amount of energy to the elements. That makes them so energy efficient!
Elwa can assist you with your asset register and generate a report on capital outlay and energy savings, followed by a free quote for the upgrade these systems will achieve the best possible energy efficiency in the building for hot (and cold) water systems.
A Hotrun is an electric instantaneous water heater, that despite weighing less than 2kg and measuring the size of a milk carton, it never runs out of warm water. Available in different pre-set tamperproof temperatures, this eliminates the need for expensive mechanical temperature limiting valves that require annual service and 3 or 5-yearly replacement. Hotruns are suitable for a wide range of applications such as hand basins, showers, laundries, kitchenettes, etc. The Hotrun-VE range can come with a legionella cleaning cycle option for thermal disinfection of fixture downstream from the water heater. The Hotrun can be installed in new developments but is also a great solution for replacing existing inefficient storage heaters. Maintenance free and more importantly it eliminates the risk of legionella.
Of course the Hotrun has all the relevant electrical & plumbing approvals.
Savings and benefits
The Hotrun range is extremely water and energy efficient. It only consumes energy when there is a need for warm water and, when installed close to the tap water loss is reduced to a minimum. Energy consumption has been monitored and compared to traditional storage heaters in SA Government buildings resulting in a massive energy saving of 63% and on installations costs can be can be made up to 40%.
