Instantaneous Electric Hot Water Systems for Commercial & Industrial Projects

Tight plant rooms and staged fit-outs need to armour with a reliable hot water system. High performance ELWA instantaneous electric hot water systems are designed for commercial and industrial sites where reliability, compliance, and documentation matter. We’ll assist you select the right solution to match your electrical capacity, usage demand, and temperature requirements. Our Commercial Energy Consultants can also help assess your site’s energy performance and recommend the most suitable system for your application.

Help and Support from
Australian-Owned Manufacturer

Most hot water solutions look good on paper, but on site, the weak points show up quickly: switchboard constraints, flow assumptions that do not match real usage, temperature fluctuations, and incomplete handover documentation.

ELWA is proudly Australian-owned and works closely with hydraulic and electrical engineers, architects, builders, project managers, and the installation teams to deliver clean, predictable outcomes. Because selecting a system isn’t just about the heater, it’s about ensuring the performance meets the specification holds through procurement, installation, commissioning, and sign-off.

When instantaneous is the right fit, you gain a clear operational and financial advantage: energy is only used when hot water flows, eliminating standby losses associated with stored systems and long piperuns. The key is choosing the right system for the load and the site, and that’s where we offer help.

What Makes ELWA Instant
Electric Hot Water Heaters Different

ELWA’s Hotrun-X range is designed to make projects easier to specify and faster to deliver:
Instantaneous Electric Hot Water Systems-Elwa Energysavers
  • On-site configurable power inputs (kW) across the range, so you can set input to suit the available supply and the deand for hot water without the need to swap a water heater when the demand changes in the building.
  • Australian-owned which means the product is always available and supported by our team locally.
  • Industry leading 10-year warranty supported by durable construction, suited to projects where longevity and reliability matter. No other electric instantaneous water heater brands provide this for both commercial and domestic applications.
  • 45°C WaterMark-certified option for sites where 45°C delivery is a safety requirement yet to be endorsed in the NCC for DA and childcare facilities
  • Designed for licensed installers with clear documentation that supports Australian standards and compliance.
  • No hot water demand means zero energy use, which suits all situations and provides major energy savings especially in places where there is intermittent or low volumes of hot water are required.
If you are delivering ongoing projects across multiple sites, those points are what keep installs consistent.

Practical Selection and Supply Process
for Instant Electric Hot Water System

A common failure point is the mismatch between site conditions and assumptions made in the early design stage. Use this process to avoid late-stage changes, commissioning delays, and performance complaints:

Confirm the application

fixture types, number of outlets served, climate zone, required temperature rise.

Check electrical capacity

available (single or three-phase) power supply

Match the product to demand

expected peak draw-off, incoming water temperature assumptions, flow requirement at the outlet.

Plan installation details

location, access for servicing, pipe orientation, and any site constraints.

Lock down documentation for sign-off

specs, compliance info, and what the consultant or facilities team needs for handover.

FAQs: Instantaneous Electric Hot Water Systems

The best way to choose the right ELWA Hotrun instantaneous system is to match the model to the demand for hot water, then confirm the final selection against your available power supply.

Elwa has a model to suit every application. Hotrun X6 is designed for a hand wash basin or kitchenette (in an office); Hotrun X11 is designed for a kitchen sink or shower (in the medium & warmer climate zones);; Hotrun X12 (3-phase) is designed to serve 1–3 hand wash basin, a shower//1-2 hairdresser basin(s) or 1–2 kitchen sinks; and Hotrun X24 (3-phase) is designed to serve 3–7 hand wash basins, or 1–3 showers, 1–3 hairdresser basins, and/or 1–3 kitchen sinks.

Final model and kW setting still depend on your site conditions, including available power supply (single, two, or three phase), expected simultaneous use, and climate zone/incoming water conditions. If you share the above information with us, we can help narrow down the correct model and settings or you can use our selection chart in the brochure.

Hot water temperature is not just about the unit itself. It also depends on the inlet water temperature and depending on the climate zone where it is installed, so the final result can vary depending on the location of the building.

For the ELWA Hotrun X, it is designed to deliver up to 60°C (depending on local conditions and regulations). That makes it a practical option for uses like kitchen sinks, laundry areas, and cleaners’ sinks where higher temperature water is often needed.

For personal hygiene applications, the ELWA Hotrun X can also be supplied limited to a maximum temperature of 50°C,eliminating the need for an additional expensive Thermostatic Mixing Valve (TMV) and helps to reduce the installation costs.

An important note is to confirm the required outlet temperature at the point of use, then match that with flow rate and available electrical capacity so the selected unit performs as expected.

Placement has a direct impact on performance, energy efficiency, and water wastage. The farther? the Hotrun is from the outlet, the more heat can be lost in long pipe runs and the more water may be wasted while waiting for hot water.

Ideally, place the Hotrun within 6 metres of the water outlet to maximise energy efficiency, minimise heat loss, and reduce water wastage. Performance depends on placement, and when the Hotrun is positioned well, hot water can ideally be delivered within seconds.

If multiple outlets are spread across a larger area, a decentralised layout may be the better option to reduce long pipe runs and expensive hot water reticulating system while improving response times.

Send the floor plans to us and we’ll get you the best solution for your project or job.

Compared to electric hot water storage systems, the ELWA Hotrun X electric instantaneous hot water system delivers at least 63% energy savings from standing losses alone because it does not store heated water in a tank. There is no risk of Legionella Bacteria when using Elwa Hotruns, unlike any storage type systems.

The ELWA Hotrun X electric instantaneous hot water system also achieve similar energy savings to an electric heat pump hot water system (which is also a storage system). However, the Hotrun X can reduce water use because hot water is produced at or closer to the point(s) of use rather than being held in storage and pushed through longer runs.
